Job Description

Director of Projects

Deutsche Windtechnik is Germany's largest Independent Service Provider, offering a comprehensive service package for Wind Turbine Generators (WTG) from one single source.

With more than 9,000 WTGs under contract and more than 2,200 worldwide employees operating in Europe, the US and Asia, Deutsche Windtechnik sets the bar for Independent Service Provider services.

Deutsche Windtechnik came to North America and started operations here in 2018. Headquartered in Houston, TX, it is our goal to set the standard for best-in-class levels of quality, safety, efficiency, and customer service in the US market.

Ready to continue your career and help shape the future of wind repower operations?

As the Director of Projects, you will serve as the senior operational leader for Deutsche Windtechnik's Repower division. Working closely with the Vice President, Repower, you will oversee the successful execution of repower and major component replacement campaigns across the United States while building the systems, processes, and field leadership necessary to support continued growth.

Are You Looking To:

  • Promote our DWT safety culture where everyone has the confidence to stop the job when something doesn't seem right or feels unsafe?

  • Lead the execution of large-scale wind repower and major component replacement campaigns?

  • Build and develop high-performing teams of Site Managers, Project Managers, Field Supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors?

  • Drive operational excellence through workforce planning, productivity improvements, and standardized execution practices?

  • Influence company strategy through forecasting, resource planning, proposal reviews, and cross-functional leadership?

What You'll Be Responsible For:

Operations & Field Management

  • Lead and develop field teams, including Site Managers, Construction Managers, technicians, subcontractors, and vendor partners.

  • Ensure adherence to operational procedures, work instructions, quality standards, and industry best practices across all project sites.

  • Optimize workforce planning and resource allocation across concurrent projects, balancing internal crews, contract labor, and subcontractor scopes.

  • Establish productivity benchmarks including turbine completion rates, crane utilization, rework metrics, and schedule performance, while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Own field readiness across the portfolio, including tooling, equipment availability, training and certification compliance (QEW, OEM-specific qualifications), and crew composition standards.

  • Champion a strong safety culture and partner closely with HSE on incident prevention, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.

Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination

  • Coordinate with Procurement and Supply Chain teams to ensure major component availability, lead-time management, and delivery sequencing aligned with project schedules and crane mobilizations.

  • Direct site logistics planning, including laydown yards, component staging, transportation windows, and crane mobilization and demobilization activities.

  • Manage subcontractor and vendor performance in the field, including crane providers, transportation partners, and specialty service contractors.

  • Identify and proactively mitigate supply chain risks, including component delays, transportation constraints, weather impacts, and resource availability challenges.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Implement Lean methodologies and process optimization initiatives across project planning, field execution, commissioning, and project closeout workflows.

  • Standardize repeatable execution playbooks, including work packages, inspection and test plans (ITPs), commissioning checklists, and lessons-learned processes.

  • Develop and maintain operational KPI dashboards and reporting structures while establishing a regular operating cadence through daily site huddles, weekly project reviews, and monthly portfolio reviews.

  • Evaluate and deploy tools, technology, and reporting solutions that improve field productivity, documentation quality, and operational visibility.

Leadership & Strategic Support

  • Represent the Vice President, Repower in customer meetings, leadership forums, and cross-functional initiatives as needed.

  • Contribute to divisional strategy, annual planning, resource forecasting, bid/no-bid decisions, and proposal reviews by providing execution-focused input on cost, schedule, and risk.

  • Build and strengthen the field leadership bench through recruiting, development, succession planning, and career progression initiatives for Site Managers and Project Managers.

  • Collaborate with Long-Term O&M and SFS service lines on shared resource planning, technician deployment strategies, and cross-functional business opportunities.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in wind energy, heavy construction, or industrial operations.

  • 5+ years leading multi-site field execution teams.

  • Direct experience with wind repower, major component replacement, or crane-intensive projects.

  • Strong commercial, financial, project management, and customer-facing experience.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30%.

What You'll Get:

  • 401(k) with fully vested company match available after 6 months.

  • Generous PTO and excellent Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits.

  • Competitive compensation.

  • Personalized and ongoing leadership development opportunities.
